We are looking for Young Makers—aged 7-17 years and passionate about hands-on learning.  We love having Young Makers demo their projects—but we love it even more when they help teach other kids Maker skills! We encourage hands-on activities and workshops that educate and engage the public on the process of “making” with a demonstration, a presentation, or a hands-on workshop. While some art or science fairs tend to keep projects behind glass, our Maker Faire is a hands-on, minds-on event. Our exhibitors engage the public by showing what it means to really make something—teaching techniques, showcasing tools, and demonstrating both the perfect and not-so-perfect products of their labor.

What are we looking for?
Here is a list of ideas and projects, but this is just a starting point. Young Makers – amaze, amuse and surprise us!

  • Individual and Group School and Summer Camp Projects
  • Robotics (Lego, Vex, your own, etc.)
  • Music Performance and Participation
  • Textile Arts and Crafts
  • Rockets, RC Toys, RC Airplanes and Drones
  • Sustainable, recycled and repurposed creations
  • Woodwork, ceramics, model making
  • Radios, Vintage Computers and Game Systems
  • Electric and human-powered vehicles
  • DIY Science, Biology/Biotech, and Chemistry Projects
  • Home-made puppets, musical instruments, fabric art
  • Kites, lanterns, origami
  • Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontrollers
  • Unusual Tools or Machines
  • How to Fix Things or Take them Apart (Vacuums, Clocks, Washing Machines, etc.

What is the Young Maker time commitment?

Young Makers can sign up for one or more one-hour time slots between 11am and 6pm.  It’s a great way to be both a participant and also check out the whole Faire.

What will I receive if I am selected and participate?

  • Advance detailed information about the event schedule, your space, load-in and tear-down times and instructions; a participation agreement and waiver.
  • A certificate of participation in Louisville Mini Maker Faire 2016, commending their talent, problem-solving, and willingness to communicate what it takes to be a Maker.
  • Special recognition during the Faire as a young maker.
  • A seriously fun and memorable experience!

 


What do Adult Helpers of Young Makers do?
Young Makers who apply must also have an adult manager responsible for the coordination and supervision of their participation up to and throughout the Maker Faire.

The adult manager must be willing to:

  • Coordinate and manage the needs of the Young Maker(s) with the Young Maker Faire Coordinator as the main contact for the group, ensuring that projects are completed on time and meet the requirements necessary for exhibition.
  • Arrange transportation and attendance for the Faire and ensure shifts are filled by adults and children who can manage behavior during exhibition time.
